Eleven inquiries about support staff

O-2 or P-1S: which visa carries the support team

The corner team, the physio, the race engineer — support staff ride classifications that attach to someone else's status, and picking the wrong one strands exactly the person the athlete cannot compete without.

The rule that decides everything

Support classifications FOLLOW the principal: an O-1 athlete's essential support rides O-2; a P-1 athlete's or team's rides P-1S. There is no choosing across the line — identify the principal's classification (the hub sorts it) and the support category follows automatically. The real questions are essentiality and structure, below.

What "essential" actually requires

O-2P-1S
Attaches toAn O-1 principalA P-1 athlete or team
The showingIntegral to THIS athlete's performance, with critical skills and experience not readily available in the US Essential support with critical knowledge of the specific services
The classic evidenceThe working history: this cutman has worked this fighter's corner through documented boutsThe role's specificity: the team physio who runs THIS squad's protocols
PetitionedAlongside or after the O-1, same petitioner sideSame side as the P-1, own petition

The shared failure mode: generic résumés. "Experienced physiotherapist" is not essentiality — "the physiotherapist who has managed this athlete's rehabilitation protocol since 2023, documented" is. The relationship IS the evidence.

Corner teams, by name

Fight sports run on this category — the firm's published UFC 270 cornermen matter shows even the emergency version done right, and the firm's P-1S service page and support-staff overview carry the service side. Officials and referees are a DIFFERENT problem — their own page explains why.

Timing and renewals

Support status tracks the principal's validity — file together when you can (same four clocks), and renew together: the firm's published O-2/P-1S renewal page covers the support side's own cycle. A principal's extension without the team's is how corners get stranded mid-camp.

Questions clients actually ask

Can support staff work for other athletes while here?

The status attaches to the principal's activity — moonlighting for other camps is outside it. Staff serving multiple principals need the structure planned that way from filing.

Does a coach ride O-2/P-1S or their own petition?

Both exist: essential-support when genuinely attached to the principal's performance, or their own O-1A on the compound record the coaching page describes. Career trajectory usually decides.

Our physio was denied as 'not essential.' Now what?

That finding is usually an evidence gap — the relationship and specificity showing. The denial page's roads apply, and a rebuilt filing with the working history documented often answers it.
